Max Merle Hosier, 90, of Cedar Falls, died at home Saturday, June 8, 2013. He was born September 16,1922, in Fairbury, Nebraska, son of Forrest and Olive Roland Hosier. He married Janice Aleene Kimsey on August 4, 1946, in Farragut. Mr. Hosier served in the U. S. Navy during World War II and for over twenty years in the Navy Reserves. He received his bachelor's degree from Peru State Teachers College and both his master's degree and doctorate from the University of Northern Colorado, Greeley. He taught fourth through sixth grades at Price Laboratory School and later was a professor of reading and language arts at the University of Northern Iowa, retiring in 1988.
Survived by: his wife; three sons, Chuck (Diane) of Waterloo and Perry and Andy, both of Cedar Falls; four grandchildren, Tonie, Kayla, Paul, and David; and five great-grandchildren, Justin, Lucie, Ava, Alana, and Clint. Preceded in death by: a son, John B.; and a brother, Forrest.
Services: visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m., Tuesday, at Richardson Funeral Service, Cedar Falls. Private family services will occur at a later date, with burial in Greenwood Cemetery, Cedar Falls. Memorials: may be directed to St. Timothy United Methodist Church. Condolences may be left at the Richardson Funeral Service website.
