Professor Hershey Dies
Professor Samuel Freeman Hersey, member of the science department at Teachers College from 1899 until 1935, when he became emeritus, died September 27, 1945, at Cheyenne, Wyoming, where he had gone this summer to make his home with his daughter. He received the bachelor of philosophy at Beloit College, Beloit, Wisconsin, in 1892; studied at Washington University, St. Louis, Missouri; Harvard University; and the University of Wisconsin. Before coming to Teachers College as professor of physics and chemistry, he served as superintendent of schools at Epworth, Farley, and Earlville, Iowa. He also taught at Washington University for three years.
Surviving are a daughter Frances, Cheyenne; three sons, Samuel, Chicago; Dr. Nelson, Navy; and Louis, Des Moines. Mrs. Hersey died in 1944.
