RE: Dr. Harry G. Guillaume
Dr. Harry G. Guillaume, Emeritus Professor of Art, passed away Tuesday, September 10, 1991, at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester, Minnesota. Services will be held Saturday, September 14, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, at 10:30 a.m. Dr. Guillaume is survived by his wife, Rita; and two daughters, Darlene Asmus of Cedar Falls and Jacquelyn Wesolosky of Kaneohe, Hawaii. He is also survived by one grandson, Cody.
Dr. Guillaume joined the UNI art faculty in 1948. He was a professor of art from 1956 until his retirement in 1981. He received a diploma from the State University of New York College of Education at Fredonia in 1936 and B. S. (1938), M. A. (1939) and Ed. D. (1953) degrees from Columbia University Teachers College. He undertook additional study at the University of Minnesota. Before joining UNI, Guillaume taught at schools in New York and New Jersey. He was a founding member of Art Educators of Iowa and its president from 1951 to 1953. He served as president of the Western Arts Association, a member of the board of directors of the National Art Education Association, and an associate editor of the NAEA Journal.
Guillaume was head of the UNI Department of Art from 1948 to 1970. He served as chairman of the Art Faculty Council from 1976 to 1980. He was chosen UNI Administrator of the Year in 1981. The family of Dr. Guillaume is establishing a scholarship for university students in the arts. Contributions can be sent to: The Harry G.
