Orrin "Gil" Gilbert, 87, of Cedar Falls, died Tuesday, December 31, 2013, at his home. Gil was born May 5, 1926, in Waterloo, Iowa, the son of Ralph and Cleo (Brown) Schroedermeier. He married Sharon Eriksen on October 15, 1955, in Cedar Falls. Gil served in the U. S. Navy during World War II. He was employed with the City of Cedar Falls, Dahl Funeral Home, J. S. Latta Company, and retired as a groundskeeper at the University of Northern Iowa.
Survivors include his wife, Sharon Gilbert, of Cedar Falls; his son, Jerome Kent (Christina) Gilbert, of Le Grand, Iowa; two grandchildren, Amanda Gilbert-Heyl and Sarah Gilbert; two great-grandchildren, Lilly George and William George, VII; a brother, Ralph Schroedermeier, Jr., of Waverly, Iowa, and a sister, Beverly White, of Plainfield, Iowa. Gil was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Stanley Schroedermeier.
Services will be 1:30 p.m. Monday, January 6, 2014, at Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home, with burial at Fairview Cemetery, both in Cedar Falls. Visitation will be 2-5:00 p.m. Sunday, and one hour before service Monday, at the funeral home. Memorials may be directed to the family. Condolences may be left at the Dahl Funeral Home website.
