Dr. Norris M. Durham, 74, of Cedar Falls, died Wednesday, January 26, 2011, at his home. He was born March 13, 1936, in Philadelphia, son of Archie M. and Frieda E. Russell Durham. He married Louise Hackenberg in 1971 in Detroit. She died February 16, 2010. Dr. Durham served in the U. S. Air Force. He received his master's degree from New York University and his Ph. D. from Penn State University. He was employed as a professor of anthropology at Wayne State University, Detroit, from 1970 to 1974, University of Wisconsin-Green Bay from 1974 to 1979, and at the University of Northern Iowa from 1980 to 2002, when he retired.
Survived by: two nephews, Donald J. Hackenberg of Milesburg, Pennsylvania, and Dennis R. Hackenberg of Unionville, Pennsylvania; a niece, Diane M. Gates of Runville, Pennsylvania; his mother of Philadelphia; a sister, Frieda Crampton of Philadelphia; his step-granddaughter, Riki Duck of Loganton, Pennsylvania.; and a step-great-grandson, Bryton W. Duck. Visitation: 5 to 7 p.m. Monday at Richardson Funeral Home. Memorials: may be directed to the Cedar Bend Humane Society.
