Joseph Carl Druvenga, 88, of Parkersburg, died Monday August 11, 2003, at the Cedar Falls Health Care Center, Cedar Falls, of natural causes. He was born January 18, 1915, near Aplington, son of Reinhard and Gepke Mulder Druvenga. He married Alice Irene Frerichs on November 28, 1942, in Neosho, Missouri. She died in 1997. Mr. Druvenga served in the U. S. Army in North Africa, Naples, and Rome, Italy, and in the northern Apennine Mountains. He farmed near Ackley and north of Parkersburg and was employed in the Physical Plant at the University of Northern Iowa, Cedar Falls, for twenty years, retiring in 1980. He also owned and operated a sodding and landscaping service in Parkersburg.
Survivors include: three sons, Russell (Jocelyn) of Dike, Darrell of Pella, and Dallas of Parkersburg; a daughter; Diane (Ken) Roberts of Parkersburg; four grandchildren, three step-grandchildren and a great-granddaughter; a brother, Richard of Aplington; and two sisters, Lena Meester of Parkersburg and Jennie Druvenga of Aplington; and a sister-in-law, Helen Druvenga of Parkersburg. Preceded in death by: two brothers, Henry and Charles.
Services: 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Christian Reformed Church, with burial in Oak Hill Cemetery, both in Parkersburg. Military rites will be conducted by Parkersburg American Legion Post 385. Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. today and 9 to 11 a.m. Thursday at Redman-Schwartz Funeral Home, Parkersburg.
