Virginia Marston Douglas, 78, of Cedar Falls, Iowa, died Tuesday, August 23, 2005, at the Western Home Communities Elizabeth Martin Health Center in Cedar Falls. She was born January 2, 1927, at Postville, Iowa, the daughter of Euclid and Marie (Danner) Marston. Virginia was a graduate of Postville High School and attended Cornell College in Mount Vernon, Iowa. She graduated from the University of Northern Iowa with a B. A. degree in business education and received her M. A. degree from the University of Wisconsin. Virginia married Lloyd V. Douglas on August 4, 1973, in Winona, Minnesota. He died July 12, 1978. She taught at the high schools in Monticello and Algona, Iowa and Elgin, Illinois. Virginia also taught at Elgin Community College; Racine Vocational School in Racine, Wisconsin; Wisconsin Technical College in Milwaukee; Winona State University in Winona, Minnesota; and the University of Northern Iowa Business Education Department. She was a teacher at the Department of the U. S. Army Schools near Paris, France.
Virginia was a member of the United Church of Christ in Cedar Falls; PEO, where she held various offices; the Cedar Falls Woman's Club; Church Women United; Sartori Hospital Auxiliary; Goodwill Industries; and other civic organizations. She traveled extensively in the United States and most of the countries in Europe. Her trip to Egypt and the Holy Land was especially meaningful. Virginia was a passionate advocate for education, a community leader, and a loving and caring person. She will be dearly missed by her family.
Virginia is survived by two brothers, Joseph (Blanche) Marston of Bridgewater, New Jersey, and Craig Marston of Spokane, Washington; one sister Jean (Al) Lopez of Houston, Texas; one sister-in-law, Phyllis Marston of Eden Prairie, Minnesota; cousins, Elaine (Faraday) Strock of Pontiac, Illinois, Marilyn Carlson of Creve Couer, Missouri, Janice Fitzsimmons Dorman of La Crosse, Washington, and Marston Fitzsimmons of Pomeroy, Washington; three nephews, Douglas, Craig, and Cary Marston; and two nieces, Patty and Kathy Marston. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and one brother, Dwight H. Marston.
Memorial services will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, September 9, 2005, at the United Church of Christ, Cedar Falls. Inurnment will be at the Postville Cemetery, Postville, Iowa.
