William Eugene "Bill" Cooney, 84, of Cedar Falls, died at the Windsor Health Care Center Tuesday, March 15, 2005, of natural causes. He was born May 3, 1920, in Council Bluffs, son of Ora Eldon and Clara May Lehigh Cooney. He married Cheryle Rose Chamberlain in December 1968 in Cedar Falls. She died November 29, 1992 Mr. Cooney was employed by the University of Northern Iowa as a painter for sixteen years, retiring in 1986. He was also a veteran of the U. S. Army having served in World War II and the Korean Conflict. He was member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 4074 and Cedar Falls AMVETS Post 49. 

Survivors include: a son, Timothy Ray (Carol) Wahner, Sr., of Kirksville, Missouri, a daughter, Robin (Roy) Albert of Hopkinton; a daughter-in-law, Susan Springer of Waterloo; four grandchildren, Tayya (Josh) Wahner and Tamara (Dan) Purdy, both of Waterloo, Timothy Ray (Mandy) Wahner, Jr., of Plymouth, Minnesota, and Tony (Kathy) Flaherty of Waverly; three great-grandchildren with another one on the way; and two sisters, Leola Pendgraft of Oakland and Mildred (Jim) Hixon of Torrance, California. Preceded in death by: a daughter, Lucinda Fain; a brother, Eldon; and four sisters, Leta Rollins, Marilla Eldon, Frances Calmer, and Earldene Erickson. Service: 10 a.m. Friday at Garden View Chapel, with burial in Garden of Memories, both in Waterloo. Friends may call for an hour before services Friday at the chapel. Graveside military rites will be conducted by Cedar Falls AMVETS Post 49. Memorials: may be directed to the family.
