Elmer Cawelti, 95, of Cedar Falls, died Monday, February 25, 2008, at the Cedar Falls Lutheran Home. He was born March 22, 1912, in Alta Vista, son of Charles and Emma Parman Cawelti. He married LaVerne "Beany" Edwards on August 11, 1937, in Nashua. She died in 1963. He married Jane Burns on September 9, 1978, in Cedar Falls. She died in 1999. Mr. Cawelti was a salesman for Standard Oil, retiring in 1967. He later worked as a custodian at the University of Northern Iowa, retiring in 1977.
Survivors include: a son, Scott (Angeleita Floyd) of Cedar Falls; four grandchildren, Blaine Joseph Cawelti, Jeremiah Cawelti, Christa (Max) Folkers, and Jason (Caroline Corgiat) Cawelti; four great-grandchildren, Gus and Layla Folkers, Jeffrey Corgiat Cawelti, and Peyton Cawelti; and a daughter-in-law, Connie Gosselink, of Des Moines. Preceded in death by: his parents; a son, Jim; and three brothers, Ralph, Harley, and Les. Services: 1 p.m. Saturday at Cedar Falls Lutheran Home Chapel, with burial in Fairview Cemetery. Public visitation from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home. Memorials: may be directed to the Cedar Falls Lutheran Home.
