Mary Beckman and friend Mary Green Beckman, 87, of Cedar Falls, died Monday, December 27, 2010, at Cedar Valley Hospice Home in Waterloo. She was born September 4, 1923, in Rome, Italy, daughter of William Isaac and Jane Wedgewood Green. She married Malcolm Beckman in 1952 and he preceded her in death. She earned her B. M. degree at Oberlin Conservatory of Music and her M. M. from Cleveland Institute of Music. She was a professor of harp and music at the University of Northern Iowa for many years. Survived by: seven nieces and nephews; and six great-nieces and great-nephews.
Memorial services: 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Luke's Episcopal Church, Cedar Falls, with inurnment in Rose Hill Cemetery, Grundy Center. Richardson Funeral Service is assisting the family. Memorials: may be directed to Cedar Valley Hospice or to the following organizations for inclusion in Mary Beckman Endowment Funds: Cedar Falls Civic Foundation for the Cedar Falls Public Library or Cedar Bend Humane Society; St. Luke's Episcopal Church; University of Northern Iowa Foundation; or Sartori Health Care Foundation. She was extremely active in her church and in community affairs and received several awards from the Governor of Iowa for her contributions to society.
