Russell N. Baum, 87, of Cedar Falls, died January 29, 2000, at the Western Home Martin Center of congestive heart failure. He was born November 23, 1912, in Buffalo, New York, son of Edwin 0. and Ellen B. Newberry Baum. He married Lyle Lillian Julius on June 4, 1940, in Fort Dodge. Mr. Baum received his bachelor's degree in music in 1934 and his master's degree in composition in 1935, both from the Eastman School of Music, Rochester, New York. He was professor of piano and conductor at the University of Northern Iowa for over forty-two years, retiring in 1980.
Survived by: his wife; three sons, Michael of Boston, Eric of Madrid, Spain, and Kurt of Minneapolis; and a grandson. Preceded in death by: a sister, Helen Miller. Memorial services: 2 p.m. March 4, 2000, at the Hearst Center for the Arts, with private inurnment at Fairview Cemetery. Richardson Funeral Home, Cedar Falls, is in charge of arrangements,
