Michael Dennis Freeland, 70, of Hudson, died at home Monday, May 11, 2015, from pancreatic cancer. He was born June 4, 1944, in Waterloo, son of Vernon and Mary Dinnebier Freeland, Sr. He married Brenda Postel on October 9, 1987, at Pleasant Grove Presbyterian Church, Littleton. Michael graduated from Waterloo East High School in 1963, and then worked at the Illinois Central Railroad. He then worked at the University of Northern Iowa as a maintenance plumber, retiring in 1999. He was a member at the Elks Club. Survived by: his wife; four daughters, Angie (Brian) Carmichael of Aplington, Stephanie Freeland of Cedar Falls, Heather Freeland of Waterloo and Amanda Freeland of Hudson; five grandchildren, Kayla (Zach) Wayne, Hunter and Bryce Carmichael and Brandon and Mazie Gilfillan; two great-grandsons, Karder and Tate Wayne; his mother of Waterloo; two brothers, Chuck (Nancy) of Waterloo and Dick (Sherry) of Detroit; and two sisters, Rosemary (Jim) Glass and Carol (Darrell) Kinkade, both of Waterloo. Preceded in death by: his father; a grandson, Cody Kruse; and a brother, Vernon, Jr.
Services: 1 p.m. Friday at Parrott & Wood Chapel of Memories, an Overton Family Service, where visitation begins at 11 a.m., with burial in Hudson Cemetery. Memorial fund: is being established Condolences can be left at the Overton Family Service website. Michael was voted in to the State of Iowa Softball Hall of Fame with his two brothers in 1990. He enjoyed playing cards, fishing, camping, and horse racing. Most of all, he loved spending time with his family.
