June Jeanette Baker Rogers passed away November 23, 2007, at the Western Home Martin Center. She was born June 19, 1916, the oldest child of John Henry Baker and Katie Stevens Jones Jaynes Baker.
She was united in marriage on June 1, 1935, to Lawrence Edward Rogers. They were the parents of five children, Darlene (Ivan) McKee, Nancy (George) Dunkelberg of Cedar Falls, Duane (Anna) Rogers of Summerville, South Carolina, Larry Rogers of Rainier, Washington, and David (deceased) Maria Nicol Rogers of Waverly. Also survived by eighteen grandchildren, thirty-seven great-grandchildren, and eleven great-great-grandchildren, a host of nieces and nephews, and many friends.
With the exception of seven years in Hudson, she lived her entire life in Cedar Falls. She was active in volunteering at Sartori Hospital Auxiliary and was a member of Rebekah Lodge and Miner Mothers Club of Cedar Falls. She left to her family and friends a legacy in written works. Writing quips, quotes, poetry, and notes was her hobby for a number of years and her greatest desire was to leave writings that told others of her love for her Lord, writings that future generations may read and cherish.
She was the last of a family of fifteen children--his, hers and theirs. Some half brothers and sisters, some stepbrothers and sisters, but in name only, as they were one big happy family of Jones, Jaynes, and Bakers.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Lawrence in 2000; son; David E. Rogers in 2005; a grandson, Brian J. McKee; a great-grandson, Zachary McKee; and her eight brothers, Charles, Thomas, John, Ralph, Dallas "Doug", and Curtis Baker, Leo Jones and Dale Jaynes; six sisters, Hazel Jones Becker, Ruth Jones McClure, Viola Jones Hansen Kussert, Marian Baker Jacobsen Ballheim Vollbrecht, Marguerite Baker Padgett Benham, and Francis Baker Stevens Smith.
During the 1960s and 1970s, she worked in downtown Cedar Falls as a sales clerk at Lawn City Bakery and The Old Pottery Shop, later in the UNI laundry. She and her husband enjoyed sixty-five years of marriage and spent a number of years of traveling from coast to coast.
Services will be 10 am. Wednesday at Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home, with burial in Hillside Cemetery. Public visitation from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and for an hour before services Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorials may be directed to the family.
