John W Sorenson, 59, of Waterloo, died Saturday, March 4, 2006, at the Cedar Valley Hospice Home. He was born November 25, 1946, in Emmetsburg, son of Walton J. and Margaret M. Place Sorenson. He married Carol Brandt June 6, 1969, in Tama.
He was employed at the University of Northern Iowa for three years, Southwestern Community College, Creston, for seven years, and most recently at Hawkeye Community College for six years. For several years he was dean of applied science and technology at Hawkeye Community College. He served in the U.S. Army for two years at Fort Hood, Texas, and earned his B.A., M.A., Ed.S., and Ed.D. degrees, all from the University of Northern Iowa.
Survived by: his wife; a son, Michael of Fredericksburg; a daughter, Rachel Sorenson of Chillicothe, Missouri; and two sisters, Mary (Doug) Glasnapp of Lawrence, Kansas, and Carol Sorenson of Pleasant Hill. Preceded in death by: his parents.
Services: 10:30 am. Wednesday at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, with burial in Fairview Cemetery, both in Cedar Falls. Public visitation from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home, Cedar Falls, and for an hour before services Wednesday at the church.
