James E. Bodensteiner, 66, of Cedar Falls, died Friday, December 14, 2012, at Allen Hospital, Waterloo. He was born December 31, 1945, in West Union, son of Clem and Florence Lusson Bodensteiner. He married Roberta Ladd on December 22, 1973, in Cedar Falls.
Mr. Bodensteiner graduated from St. Luke's High School, St. Lucas, in 1963, and earned his bachelor's degree from Loras College in 1967. He served in the U.S. Army during the Viet Nam War and later earned his master's degree and Ed. S. from the University of Northern Iowa and his Ed. D. from Drake University. He was employed with the University of Northern Iowa for twenty-six years, retiring as Dean of Continuing Education in 2009. He also taught at junior and senior high schools in Dubuque and Waterloo.
Survived by: his wife; two sons, Jeffrey (Anna Shimanek) of Edina, Minnesota, and Jason (Mary) of Cedar Falls; three grandchildren, Stella and Josie Bodensteiner of Edina, and James Bodensteiner of Cedar Falls; three brothers, Clem "Tim" (Leona) of Grinnell, John (Carolyn) of Hot Springs Village, Arkansas, and Ivan (Pat) of Valparaiso, Indiana; a sister, Virginia Schmelzer of West Union; and a brother-in-law, Brad Brockman of Ossian. Preceded in death by: a brother, Edward; two sisters, Dolly Kuennen and Arlene Brockman; two brothers-in-law, Mel Kuennen and James Schmelzer; and a sister-in-law, Bernie Bodensteiner.
Services: 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Patrick Catholic Church. Visitation from 4:30 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Richardson Funeral Service, with a 6:30 p.m. time of sharing. Visitation also an hour before services Friday at the church.
Memorials in lieu of flowers: may be directed to Salvation Army, Wounded Warriors, or donor's choice.
