Jack C. Reed, 85, of Cedar Falls, died Friday, September 27, 2013, at the Cedar Valley Hospice Home, Waterloo. He was born March 17, 1928, in Lake City, son of Harry and Ruth Sylvester Reed. He married Donnita F. Seeden on December 10, 1950, at Lanesboro. Mr. Reed graduated from Lohrville High School in 1946 and Iowa State Teachers College (UNI), receiving his bachelor's degree in 1954 and his master's degree in 1957 in business education. In 1976 he received his Ed. D. from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. He served in the U.S. Army in Germany.
During his teaching career, he taught at Greene County Country School, Yetter Elementary, Rinard Junior High, Storm Lake Junior/Senior High, Rochester (Minnesota) Junior College, and spent his last twenty-five years as an associate professor in the UNI College of Business, retiring in 1990. From 1990 to 2000 he was employed part-time by UNI Continuing Education Division. He was active in many professional Business Education organizations at local, state, and national levels, and received numerous awards for outstanding achievement and leadership in the field of Business Education.
Survived by: his wife; a daughter, Jana Flessner of Derby, Kansas; three sons, Randal (Lisa) of Wausau, Wisconsin, Ronald of Mill Creek, Washington, and Gary of Lawrence, Kansas; five grandchildren, Andrea (Matt) Vogelman, Nick Flessner, Cathryn Reed, Christopher Reed, and Zakary Reed; and a sister-in-law, Agnes Reed of Sioux City. Preceded in death by: his parents; a brother, Dennis; and a daughter-in-law, SuZane Reed.
Services: 10 a.m. Tuesday at Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home, Cedar Falls, preceded by an hour of visitation, with inurnment at 3 p.m. in Lanesboro Cemetery, Lanesboro.
