Ivan L. Eland, 92, of Cedar Falls, died Wednesday, August 24, 2011, at Allen Hospital in Waterloo. He was born April 2, 1919, in Mediapolis, son of Robert and Jenny Welch Eland. He married Betty J. Bogue June 12, 1955, in State Center. She died February 17, 2011.
Mr. Eland served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He received his bachelor's degree from the Iowa State Teachers College (UNI) and his master's degree from the University of Colorado, Boulder, with graduate work at New York University, University of Nebraska, and University of Kentucky. He worked with the National Safety Council in Chicago and then was employed with the University of Northern Iowa for twenty-nine years, retiring in 1989 as director of safety education. He was a member of First United Methodist Church in Cedar Falls.
Survived by: a son, Ivan R. of Washington, D. C. Preceded in death by: two brothers, Robert and J. Kermit; and three sisters, Ella, Roberta, and Thelma.
Services: 10:30 a.m. Saturday at First United Methodist Church, with burial in Fairview Cemetery, both in Cedar Falls. Military honors will be conducted by Cedar Falls AMVETS Post 49. Public visitation from 5 to 7 p.m. today at Richardson Funeral Service, and also for an hour before services Saturday at the church.
