Professor Hyo Chul Myung passed away in Seoul, South Korea, on February 11, 2010, after a battle with pancreatic cancer. Dr. Myung resided in Cedar Falls, Iowa, prior to moving to Seoul where he was president of the Korean Institute of Advanced Science.
In Cedar Falls, he was a revered professor of mathematics at the University of Northern Iowa. He was also the proud father of his children, Karen, Peggy, Jane, and Michael Myung. He leaves his children, his colleagues and students, and many close friends. He earned national and international distinctions for his contributions to mathematics and science.
A graveside memorial and burial service will be held at Fairview Cemetery at 12th and Division Street in Cedar Falls, Iowa, on July 24, 2010, at 1 p.m. The Reverend Steve Williams from the First United Methodist Church will preside. The family will greet attendants prior to the ceremony at 12:30 p.m. at the gravesite.
Memorial funds in lieu of flowers may be sent to the Dr. Hyo Myung Family Mathematics Faculty Enrichment Endowment fund at the University of Northern Iowa Foundation, 204 Commons, Cedar Falls, Iowa, 50614-0282. Richardson Funeral Home in Cedar Falls is in charge of arrangements.
