Dr. H. Earl Rath, Professor of Health Education, passed away Saturday afternoon at the T C Relays. We are saddened by this information, for Dr. Rath was a valued member of the staff and had served faithfully and effectively since 1921 when he came to Teachers College. Prior to his service here he served as high school principal at Fonda and Decorah, Iowa.
Survivors beside Mrs. Rath are three married daughters and one son, Ronald, at home. Funeral services will be held at the First Methodist Church at 1:30 o'clock Tuesday afternoon. Any staff member who wishes to attend these services may do so by making arrangements with his administrative head. The flag will be carried at half mast today and again Tuesday afternoon. The Campanile will be played the afternoon of the funeral as an expression of respect and admiration for Dr. Rath.

Rites Tuesday for Dr. Rath Who Dies Suddenly Saturday
Funeral services will be Tuesday at 1:30 p. m. at the First Methodist Church for Dr. H. Earl Rath, 2300 Clay Street, Cedar Falls, who died suddenly Saturday at Iowa State Teachers College and, actively interested in athletic events, was at the Teachers Relays when he was stricken. An ambulance and the fire department resuscitator were called but he was dead upon arrival at the hospital.
He first came to Teachers College in 1921 as assistant football coach. He had played football at Iowa State College, Ames, where the received his college degrees and where he took his doctorate. He coached at Fonda and Decorah before coming to Teachers College. He has been active in various science organizations including American Association for the Advancement of Science; was a Fellow of the Iowa Academy of Science; member of the American Genetics Association and of the Iowa Board of Examiners for the Basic Sciences for ten years and was one time its president; was chairman for twenty years of the college athletic board and its representative in the North Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association and at one time the association's president; was the faculty sponsor for the I-Club; was a member of Beta Beta Beta; Gamma Sigma Delta; Delta Sigma Rho; Masonic Lodge and the First Methodist Church.
He was born November 5, 1891, at Mason City to Mr. and Mrs. Normal Earl Rath. He married Florence G. Heironimus, August 23, 1916, at Plymouth. Surviving are his wife, four children, Mrs. Victor Collard, Omaha, Nebraska; Mrs. William Filer, Marshalltown; Mrs. Jerald Olsen, Denver, Colorado, and Ronald at home, eight grandchildren, one sister. Mrs. Clell Squire, Mason City. The body is at the Nelson Funeral home.
