Gratus W. Mudderman died of cancer at his home in Parkersburg on Thursday, March 5, 1992. Gratus began his career at UNI in December 1969 and worked as a Facilities Mechanic III in the University Apartments Department until retiring in September 1988. 

Friends may call on the family from 1:00 to 9:00 p.m. on Friday, March 6, 1992, and from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 7, 1992, at the Schwartz Engelkes Funeral Home in Parkersburg. Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 7, 1992, at 1:30 p.m. at Hope Reformed Church in Parkersburg with burial in Oak Hill Cemetery in Parkersburg. 

Gratus was born on December 25, 1926, in rural Grundy County, son of William and Meinst Ross Mudderman. He married Gerdena Jungling, who worked in the Controller's Office at UNI until retiring in October 1989. 

Survivors include his wife, Gerdena; two sons, Laverne of Parkersburg and David of Fairbank; one daughter, Janet of Des Moines; two sisters, Mrs. Rudolph Sents and Mrs. Tena Schipper both of Aplington; and seven grandchildren. Gratus was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, and two brothers. Memorials may be made to the family.
