Eloise Marian Soy, 89, of Jesup, died Saturday; April 5, 2003, at Peoples Nursing Care Center, Independence, following a lengthy illness. She was born May 7, 1913, in Jesup, daughter of Francis Marion and Mabel Louise Young Poyner. On June 15, 1936, she married Paul Martin Soy in Elizabeth, Illinois. He preceded her in death. Mrs. Soy was a 1930 graduate of Jesup High School, then attended Iowa State Teachers College, Cedar Falls, where she received her bachelor's degree and master's degree. She taught school for several years in area communities and finished her teaching career at Price Lab School, Cedar Falls. She and her husband owned and operated Soy Drug Store, Jesup, for more than forty years before retirement. Survivors include: a son, Martin J. (Sheila) Soy of La Quinta, California; two daughters, Mary Jo (Billy L.) Johnson of Norman, Oklahoma, and Judith Ann (Charles) Hansis of Fort Collins, Colorado; seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; and a sister, Gladys Roberts of Vinton. Preceded in death by: a brother, LeRoy Poyner. Visitation: 3 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the White Funeral Home, Jesup, where there will be a 4 p.m. Catholic Daughters of the Americas rosary. Private burial will be Wednesday at St. Athanasius Catholic Cemetery, Jesup. A memorial Mass will be later in Jesup (tentatively May 15) where the family will receive friends.
