Edward Valentin Jamosky, 91, of Cedar Falls, died Friday, May 8, 2015, at NewAldaya Lifescapes. He was born February 14, 1924, in Ladysmith, Wisconsin, son of Frank and Sarah Bielski Jamosky. He married Alice Merz on August 10, 1950, in Chicago. Edward was in the U. S. Naval Academy Class of 1946 and served in the U. S. Merchant Marine two years. He later graduated from the University of Wisconsin and the University of Michigan. He retired from the University of Northern Iowa Modern Language Department after thirty years of service, as professor emeritus. He was a member of the U. S. Naval Institute, the ACLU, and the American Legion.
Survived by: his wife; two sons, Petr (Jirina) of the Czech Republic and Michael of Cedar Rapids; a daughter, Valerie (Robert) Leonard of Englewood, Colorado; five grandchildren, Daniel and Ivana Kyselka, and Michael, Rachel, and Jordan Leonard; a sister, Virginia Vanderwalker of Downers Grove, Illinois; nieces and nephews, Lorrie Raia of Huntington Beach, California, Ruth (Elmer) Althaus of Spooner, Wisconsin, Shirley Isakson, and Victor (Ellen) Martinson, both of Duluth, Minnesota, Henry Martinson of Center City, Minnesota, Carol (Dennis) Michalak of Joliet, Illinois, Kelly (Robert) Honn of Downers Grove and Alice (Ronald) Champeau of Sheboygan, Wisconsin. Preceded in death by: his parents; four brothers, Henry, Felix, Mike, and Leonard "Lee;" and a sister, Pauline Martinson. Services: 11 a.m. Thursday at Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home, preceded by an hour of visitation, with burial in Greenwood Cemetery, both in Cedar Falls. Graveside military rites will be conducted by Cedar Falls AMVETS Post 49. Memorials: may be directed to NewAldaya Lifescapes, Cedar Valley Unitarian Universalist Church, Sierra Club, and Northeast Iowa Food Bank.
