Drake Evans Martin, 62, of Cedar Falls, died Saturday, July 28, 2012, from a fall at Backbone State Park near Strawberry Point. He was born November 26, 1949, in Cedar Falls, son of Clarence and Margaret Louella Evans Martin. He married Carolyn Seiter on May 20, 1989, in Overland Park, Kansas, and they later divorced. He graduated in 1968 from Foothills High School, Sacramento, California; received a bachelor's degree in journalism/advertising from the University of Texas-Austin, and earned a master's degree in college student affairs from Bowling Green University. Mr. Martin worked at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point and had worked at the University of Northern Iowa since 1981 as assistant director of residence/education.
Survived by: two daughters, Riley Margaret Martin and Dylan Nicole Martin, both of Cedar Falls; his mother of Granite Bay, California; two brothers, Dwight of Granite Bay and Douglas (Stacey) of Hanford, California; two sisters, Dianne (Richard) Schroeder of Citrus Heights, California, and Dana (James) Mizell of Sacramento, California; and eleven nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by: his father; and an infant sister, Dawn Martin. Services: 10:30 a.m. Friday at Orchard Hill Church, with a memorial celebration at 3:30 p.m. Friday at the University of Northern Iowa Commons. Visitation from 3 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home, and for an hour before services Friday at the church. Memorials: may be directed to the UNI Foundation, Orchard Hill Church, or to the family.
