Donald R. Darrow, 73, of Waterloo, died Sunday, March 17, 2013, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, Iowa City. He was born October 15, 1939, in Anamosa, son of Richard Levi and Erma Lucille Shoop Darrow. He married Carmen Robertson on August 14, 1960, in Olin, and they later divorced. Mr. Darrow graduated from Olin High School in 1956, received both his bachelor's and master's degrees from the University of Northern Iowa, and his Ph. D. from Ohio State University. He served in the U. S. Army Reserve and was an instructor for two years at Illinois State University in Normal. Before his retirement, he was an associate professor of Industrial Technology Education at the University of Northern Iowa for many years. He was a member of the Cedar Falls Kiwanis Club, St. Timothys United Methodist Church, Cedar Falls, and First Congregational United Church of Christ, Waterloo.
Survived by: three sons, David (Maura) of Dayton, Ohio, James of Bettendorf, and Daniel of Brooklyn Park, Minnesota; a daughter, Carla (Darrell) Long of Cedar Rapids; six grandchildren: Alexandra Darrow; Mason and Mallory Long; and Alec, Mitchell, and Claire Darrow; and a sister, Phyllis (Harley) Steenhoek of Mingo. Preceded in death by: an infant sister, Joan Darrow. Services: 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at First Congregational United Church of Christ, Waterloo, with inurnment in Fairview Cemetery, Cedar Falls, at a later date. Visitation from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home, Cedar Falls. Memorial fund: will be established at a later date.
