Dr. Donald Lee Hanson, 73, of 1815 W. 18th Street, Cedar Falls, died Sunday, January 13, 2002, at Sartori Memorial Hospital of natural causes. He was born May 20, 1928, in Callender, son of George P. and Marietta Hanson. He married Barbara Higdon on June 6, 1954, in Ottumwa. She died July 13, 1973. Mr. Hanson served in many educational capacities in high schools and universities in Iowa and Missouri. He was head of the school administration department at the University of Northern Iowa, retiring in 1986. He served in the U. S. Army during World War II and the Korean War. Survived by: a son, John of Bettendorf, a daughter, Mia Hanson of Tampa, Florida; two grandchildren; a brother, Ellis "Bud" of Burnsville, Minnesota; and a sister, LaVon Wing of Fort Dodge. Preceded in death by: two brothers, John and Ken. Graveside committal services: 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Greenwood Cemetery, Cedar Falls, with military rites conducted by Cedar Falls AMVETS Post 49. There will be no visitation. Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home and Cremation Service is in charge of arrangements. Memorials: may be directed to Cedar Falls AMVETS Post 49.
