David Kent Glime, 71, died Thursday, May 12, 2016, at Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo due to cardiovascular arrest. Funeral services will be held at 12:00 p.m. Monday, May 16, 2016, at American Lutheran Church in La Porte City with the Reverend Doug Rokke officiating. Visitation will be held at the church Sunday, May 15, from 4 to 7 p.m. and one hour prior to services on Monday. He will be laid to rest next to his wife in Westview Cemetery, La Porte City. David was born February 1, 1945, at St. Francis Hospital in Waterloo, Iowa, the son of Robert and Mabel Sloan Glime. He graduated from La Porte City High School in 1963; from Iowa State University in 1967; and received his master's degree from the University of Northern Iowa.
On February 25, 1967, David was united in marriage with Rita Jean Siek in Blairstown. The couple farmed together near La Porte City. David was a dairy farmer and raised hogs and beef cattle. He was active in FFA and 4-H. He also worked for ISU Extension and UNI, retiring from UNI in 2012. David was a member of American Lutheran Church and sang in the choir. He enjoyed bird watching, gardening hostas and roses, showing and judging cattle, tractors, going to auctions, and collecting milk bottles and butter boxes. David is survived by his children, Gwendolyn Vogeler of La Porte City and Wyatt (Monica) Glime of Hartley; one sister, Ann Glime, of Colesburg; six grandchildren: Matthew, Nicolas, and Aaden Vogeler, Bailey and Hannah Stimson and Presley Glime; mother-in-law Harriet Siek of Vinton; brothers-in-law H. Marion (Nancy) and Richard Siek of Blairstown, and Robert (Vicki) Siek of Grand River; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Rita; father-in-law Henry Siek; and sister-in-law Sheryl Siek. A memorial fund has been established.
