Secretary

Coleen Ann Soper passed away April 27, 2005, at Mercy Hospice in Johnston. Services will be 10 a.m. at St. John's Catholic Church in Adel, with burial at Walnut Township Cemetery in Waukee. Friends may call after 2 p.m. Friday at McCalley Funeral Home in Adel where family will greet friends from 5 to 7 p.m. followed by a vigil service at 7 p.m. Coleen was born April 28, 1931, the daughter of Harold and Elizabeth (Wester) Hodson. After graduating from Adel High School, she worked as secretary to the Secretary of Agriculture. After traveling with her husband who was in the Army, she was a secretary in the President's Office at Iowa State Teachers College. Later she was private secretary to the managing editor of the Des Moines Register and Tribune. After time off to raise her son, she worked as office manager for the Iowa Association of Municipal Utilities. She is survived by her husband of forty-eight years, Gerald; son, Stacy (Karla); three grandchildren; four brothers, Vernon (Virgie) Hodson; Harold (Dixie) Hodson, Gale (Joanne) Hodson; and Dean Hodson; and three sisters, La Verne (Harry) Jones, Viola (Wallace) Brown, and Carole (Ed) Barlean. She will be missed by twenty-three nieces and nephews and their numerous children. Memorial contributions may be directed to Mercy Hospice of Johnston, St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Winterset, or St. John's Catholic Church in Adel.
