Betty Jean Cool Betty Jean Cool, 80, of Waterloo, died Sunday, January 10, 2009, at Covenant Medical Center of natural causes. She was born August 14, 1929, in Waterloo, daughter of Ralph and Florence Wilks Andrews. Ms. Cool was a 1947 graduate of Waterloo East High School. She was employed as an administrative assistant in the financial aid department at the University of Northern Iowa, Cedar Falls, and also worked in the circulation department at the Waterloo Courier. She was a member of First Congregational Church, where she was involved in the Handbell Choir, and was past president of the Kittrell Elementary PTA. She is survived by her loving companion, Ed James of Waterloo; two sons, Craig (Linda) Cool of Urbandale and Gary (Merry) Cool of Iowa City; a daughter, Julie (Rick) Kiefer of Waterloo; six grandchildren, Amanda Kiefer, Stephanie Cool, Ben Cool, Lynette (Kevin) Wagner, Erynn (Rich) Clark, and Jason (Tammy) Ruby; nine great-grandchildren; a brother, Harold (Audrey) Andrews of Waterloo; and a sister, Helen Cobert of Northridge, California. She was preceded in death by an infant brother, James Ralph Andrews. Services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at First Congregational United Church of Christ, with burial in Waterloo Memorial Park Cemetery. Public visitation from 4 to 7 p.m. today at Locke Funeral Home. Memorials maybe directed to the church.
