Bernice "Caroll" Thudium, 90, of Manchester, died Sunday, May 29, 2005, at the Good Neighbor Home, Manchester, following a lengthy illness. She was born July 13, 1914, in Bristow, daughter of Edwin and Naomi Schneider Granseth. She graduated from Fort Dodge High School in 1931 and later attended Gates Business College in Waterloo. She married Charles Thudium on June 5, 1937. The couple lived in Chicago and Cedar Falls and later divorced. Caroll worked outside the home most of her life. A conscientious employee, she worked in healthcare, factory, and business settings before beginning a lengthy secretarial career at the University of Northern Iowa. She worked in public relations and then in the men's physical education department until her retirement in 1979. Caroll was a member of Business and Professional Women and the Educational Secretaries Association. She was a past member of College Hill Lutheran and Our Redeemer Lutheran churches in Cedar Falls. Caroll was an avid reader and loved books of all kinds. She also enjoyed poetry, music, UNI athletics, a good laugh, and a hot cup of coffee. Caroll was a loving mother and family member. Survived by: four daughters, Sandy (Don) Geddes of Longmont, Colorado, Sharon (Jack) Yonkees of Cypress, Texas, Ellen McGee of Mankato, Minnesota, and Pat (Bill) Blakesley of Manchester; nine grandchildren and their spouses; and two sisters, Elsie (Ralph) Parkinson of Harrison, Arkansas, and Eunice Evenson of Algona. Preceded in death by: her parents, Edwin Granseth and Naomi Thronson; and a brother-in-law, Ivan Evenson. Memorial services and inurnment: will take place in July. Bohnenkamp-Murdoch Funeral Home &, Cremation Service, Manchester, is in charge of arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorials: may be directed to the Manchester Public Library in Caroll's name.
