Avis Rose Howard, 66, of Cedar Falls, died Tuesday, May 23, 2000, at Sartori Memorial Hospital of natural causes. She was born October 9, 1933, in Waterloo, daughter of John Wesley and Mabel Arletta Guptill Spooner. She married Lester L. Howard on October 21, 1949, in Cedar Falls. Mrs. Howard had been employed at Waverly Municipal Hospital and then at Sartori Memorial Hospital. She retired in 1986 from the University of Northern Iowa Library. Survived by: her husband; three daughters, Debbie J. Wilkinson of Waterloo and Denise L. Bremner and Donna E. Canell, both of Cedar Falls; two sons, John J. of Cedar Rapids and Vince D. of Baraboo, Wisconsin; 11 grandchildren; a brother, Homer Spooner of Cedar Falls; and two sisters, Faith Haskins of Apache Junction, Arizona, and Joyce Robinson of Phoenix. Preceded in death by: a brother, Harold Spooner, and a daughter, Kathleen Hope Howard. Services: 10:30 a.m. Friday at First Baptist Church, with burial in Cedar Valley Memorial Gardens. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Richardson Funeral Home, and for an hour before services Friday at the church. Memorials: may be directed to the church.
