Anna E. Galatas, 97, of Dike, died Monday, April 17, 2006, at Sartori Memorial Hospital, Cedar Falls. She was born August 25, 1908, near Dike, daughter of John and Anna Zapp Weber. She married Henry Galatas in 1947 in Kansas City, Missouri. He died in August 1974. She graduated from Dike High School in 1928 and worked at Dizler's Cafe the last three years of high school. She later worked at Russell Lamson Hotel in Waterloo. Mrs. Galatas and her husband owned and operated the Barn Coffee Shop until 1962. She worked at UNI as a housekeeper at Bartlett Hall for ten years until retiring at 65. After her husband's death, she began working a few days a week for Helen and Ralph Immings at the Barn Cafe. She worked there twenty-five years. Survivors include: two stepdaughters, Connie Barbatschi of Lanoka Harbor, New Jersey, and Shirley Baker of Rockville, Maryland; four grandchildren and a great-grandson; and a sister-in-law, Ruby Weber of Cedar Falls. Preceded in death by: two brothers, Chris and John Weber. Services: 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Dike United Methodist Church, with burial in Elmwood Cemetery, Dike. Public visitation for an hour before service Wednesday at the church. Dike Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements. Memorials: may be directed to the church.
