Alfred Otto `AI" Brocka, 85, of Cedar Falls, died Friday, February 20, 2004, at Allen Hospital, Waterloo, of pneumonia. He was born January 1, 1919, near Allison, son of Otto and Mary Endleman Brocka. He married Viola Mennen, January 8, 1942, in Aplington. Mr. Brocka farmed near Clarksville, New Hartford, Bristow, and Aplington for twenty-five years. He also worked at the University of Northern Iowa grounds department for fifteen years, retiring in 1982. Survived by: his wife; a daughter, Joyce Cawelti of Cedar Falls; two granddaughters, Jodie Victoria of Denver and Janae (Gerald) Peterson of Harris, Minnesota; two great-granddaughters, Jordyn and Bailey Victoria, both of Denver; a brother, LaVerne (Ruth) Brocka of Allison; and three sisters, Gladys (Bennie) Hinders and Esther (Paul) Schmidt, both of Allison, and Marvel (Galen) Landers of Greene. Preceded in death by: his parents; five brothers, Harry, Floyd, Melvin, Alvin, and Ernest Brocka; and a sister, Susan Hall. Services: 1 p.m. Tuesday at Nazareth Lutheran Church, with burial in Fairview Cemetery, both in Cedar Falls. Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday at Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home, and for an hour before services Tuesday at the church. Memorials: may be directed to the family.
