Vera M. Schlimmer, 83, of Cedar Falls, died Friday, November 24, 2006, at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, Iowa City, following surgery. She was born December 28, 1922, in Manilla, daughter of Ole J. and Marie C. Christensen Wigg. She married Raynor A. Schlimmer November 9, 1941, in Schleswig. He died December 17, 1995. She received her teaching certificate from Buena Vista University and then later attended Pitze's School of Beauty. She taught in a rural school while in western Iowa, was employed at Cedar Valley Savings and Loan, was a secretary for Cedar Falls Community Schools, a switchboard operator at Medical Associates, and owned and operated a beauty shop. She also taught at Pitze's, was a receptionist at Richardson Funeral Home, and worked in the box office at the University of Northern Iowa.
Survived by: a son, Richard (Linda) of Deltona, Florida; three daughters, Veronica "Roni" Long of Marcell, Minnesota, Cheryll (Richard) Schafer of Jesup, and Penelope "Penn" (Doug) Lilleskov of Cedar Falls; ten grandchildren; five stepgrandchildren, seven great-grandchildren; and twelve stepgreat-grandchildren. Preceded in death by: a brother, Edward Wigg; and two sisters, Twyla Mesenbrink and Helen Hultsch.
Services: 10 am. Tuesday at Faith Lutheran Church, Waterloo, with burial in Fairview Cemetery, Cedar Falls. Public visitation from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at Richardson Funeral Home, and for an hour before services Tuesday at the church. Memorials: may be directed to the Lutheran Hour.
