CEDAR FALLS--Shirley Eliason Haupt, 59, of 803 Iowa Street, died Friday (Sept. 30) of natural causes at Sartori Memorial Hospital. She was born June 19, 1929, in Kanawha, daughter of Olaf and Pearle Holbrock Eliason. She attended the American Academy of Art in Chicago and the Art Institute in Chicago, where she received her bachelor's degree in art education. She attended the University of Iowa, where she received her master's degree-in fine arts. She was a Fulbright scholar at the University of London for two years. She was professor of art at the University of Northern Iowa, where she taught since 1966. She was acting head of the Department of Art in 1975 and 1982. Before coming to UNI, she was assistant curator of prints and drawings at Yale University and an instructor at the University of Iowa.
Survivors include a son, George Holbrook Haupt of Cedar Falls; a sister, Mrs. Johnanna Berkenes, of Eagle Grove; and two brothers, William Eliason of Clarion and George Eliason of Clear Lake.
There will be no services. Local arrangements were by Dahl-Van Hove Schoof Funeral Home. A memorial art scholarship will be established under auspices of the UNI Foundation.
