Samuel Nodarse, 93, of Cedar Falls, died Sunday, October 13, 2013, at Western Home Communities Martin Center. He was born August 29, 1920, to Juan Francisco and Esther Fernandez Nodarse in San Juan y Martinez, Cuba. He married Olga Serra on March 6, 1943, in Matanzas. Mr. Nodarse received a law degree from the University of Habana, Cuba, and a doctorate in psycholinguistics from the University of Illinois. He worked in education as a professor of Spanish at the University of Northern Iowa for twenty-four years, retiring in 1988.
Survived by: his wife; two daughters, Olga (Dr. Raul) Chao and Xuchitl (Nick) Coso, both of Lakeland, Florida; three sons, Samuel (Gaye) of Hemet, California, Juan (Tammy) of Blue Grass and Guillermo (Claudia) of Orlando, Florida; ten grandchildren, Dr. Raul Chao, Maria Shepherd, Dr. Brynn Nodarse, Alexandra and Nicholas Coso, Jaime and Kyle Nodarse, Kelly Burkett, and Alejandro and Francisco Nodarse; a nephew: Jose Rodriguez; a niece: Esther Shockey; and six great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by: his parents; a brother; and two sisters.
Memorial services: 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Patrick Catholic Church, Cedar Falls. Memorials in lieu of flowers: may be directed to Western Home Communities Martin Center, or Unity Point Hospice. Condolences may be left at the Richardson Funeral Home website.
