Ruth Frances Miller, 66, of Cedar Falls, died Saturday, January 24, 2009, at Allen Memorial Hospital, Waterloo, of kidney cancer. She was born October 24, 1942, in San Francisco, daughter of Philip and Ruth French Duffy. She married John R. "Jack" Miller, Jr., on November 6, 1977, at Capehart Chapel, Offutt Air Force Base, Nebraska. She was a graduate of Kearney State College, received her Master of Arts degree from the University of Michigan, and was completing her Ph. D. at the University of Iowa. She was an educator for many years, teaching at both high school and university levels. Most recently she was the University of Northern Iowa Coordinator for Student Teachers in Waterloo.
Survived by: her husband; two daughters, Kelly (Aaron) Weinacht of Dillon, Montana, and Capt. Amy Marie Miller of El Paso, Texas; three grandchildren, Ruth and Egan Weinacht, and Jack Dilly, all at home; her mother, Ruth Duffy of Bellevue, Nebraska; three brothers, Dennis (Barbara) Duffy of Camdenton, Missouri, Kevin (Mary) Duffy of Omaha, Nebraska, and Mike (Jan) Duffy of Ames, and two sisters, Maureen (Rich) Losee of Bellevue and Katie (Mark) Nazeck of Ridgecrest, California. Preceded in death by: her father.
Services: 1 p.m. Tuesday at St. Patrick Catholic Church, with burial in Greenwood Cemetery. Public visitation from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday at Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home, where there will be a 4 p.m. Rosary service and a 7 p.m. vigil service. Visitation also for an hour before services Tuesday at the church. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund will be established. Condolences may be left at the Dahl Funeral Home website.
