Russell R. Barclay, 85, of Sierra Vista, Arizona, passed away Monday, August 14, 2006, at the Hospice of the Valley in Phoenix. He had been a resident of Sierra Vista for twenty-four years. Russell was born July 1, 1921, in Waterloo, to Ray and Lillian Barclay. He was a decorated veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army as a medic. Russell married Maria Crahay in Belgium on November 8, 1945. Stateside, in Waterloo, he owned and operated the Lynch Sausage Company, known for their fine pork sausages, including the hot Italian links. After selling the business, he was the superintendent of the custodial services at the University of Northern Iowa until he retired. Russell was a member of the Elks Lodge in Waterloo and locally was a member of the Knights of Columbus and the VFW Post 549. He will forever be remembered as a humble, hardworking man who loved his family dearly.
Russell is survived by his loving wife of sixty years, Maria, of Sierra Vista; three sons, Dennis Barclay of Boston, Mark (Tami) Barclay of Sierra Vista and Rene Barclay of Waterloo; two grandchildren, Zac and Lindsey Barclay; and a great-granddaughter, Devan Winkie, all of Waterloo.
Memorial services will be held at a later date. The family has requested that memorial contributions be made in Russell Barclay's name to one's favorite charity or cause. Arrangements are by the Hatfield Funeral Home, Sierra Vista, (520) 458-5120.
