Robert E. Hatton, 63, of Waterloo, died Tuesday, September 2, 2003, at Allen Hospital of natural causes. He was born April 7, 1940, in Waterloo, son of Harold and Elizabeth Murphy Hatton. He married Fran Schaack in 1962 in Waterloo, and they were later divorced. Mr. Hatton graduated from St. Mary's Catholic High School in 1958 and also attended the American Academy of Art in Chicago for four years. He served in the U .S. Navy during the Cuban Missile Crisis. He was a tool maker at Chamberlain Manufacturing, then was an inspector in heat treat with Deere & Co., and most currently was employed in the custodial department at the University of Northern Iowa, Cedar Falls. 

Survivors include: a daughter, Lisa (Mike) Linahon of Algona; three granddaughters, Jennifer, Lauren, and Katherine Linahon; a brother, Charles (Darlene) Hatton of Waterloo; and a sister, Patricia Hatton of Waterloo. Preceded in death by: his parents; stepfather; Fred Walbaum; and a brother, Donald Hatton. 

Services: 10 a.m. Saturday at Queen of Peace Catholic Church, St. Mary's Site, with burial in Mount Olivet Cemetery, with military rites by Waterloo AMVETS Post 19 and Evansdale AMVETS Post 31. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on West Ridgeway, where there will be a 4 p.m. Rosary and a 7 p.m. vigil service. Visitation also for an hour before services at the church on Saturday. Memorials: may be made to the family.
