Dr. Richard S. Newell, 74, of Cedar Falls, died Tuesday, October 9, 2007, at the Courtyard Care Center, Bellingham, Washington, after a lengthy illness. He was born January 13, 1933, in .Seattle, son of Julia and Richard B. Newell. He married Nancy Peabody on March 21, 1954, in Seattle. Mr. Newell was educated at Stanford University, the University of Washington, and the University of Pennsylvania, and served with the U.S. Army during the Korean War before joining the Department of History al the University of Northern Iowa in 1967. He retired in 1995.
Survivors include: his wife of Cedar Falls; three daughters, Noel (Jerry) Andriff of Maple Falls, Washington, Victoria Newell of Cedar Falls, and Dore Newell of Mahwah, New Jersey; four grandsons; and a sister, Sally Maider (Richard) of Seattle.
