Norman L. McCumsey, 88, of Cedar Falls, died Thursday, August 13, 2015, at Covenant Medical Center, Waterloo. He was born July 27, 1927, in Eugene, Oregon, son of Harvey Leroy and Ruth Winifred Lafayette McCumsey. He married Marlene Shea on December 28, 1992, in Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin. A U. S. Navy veteran of World War II, Norman received his doctorate in education and was associate professor in the Department of Educational Leadership and Post Secondary Education at the University of Northern Iowa.
Survived by: his wife; two sons, Scott (Cori) of Grand Rapids, Michigan, and Lane (Erin) of Williston, North Dakota; two daughters, Ellen McCumsey of Junction City, Oregon, and Jane Kaichen of Gunnison, Colorado; a stepson, Scott (Danielle) Shea of Cedar Falls; and eighteen grandchildren. Preceded in death by: his parents; a sister, Winifred; and two brothers, Bob and Lou Services: 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, August 18, 2015, at Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home, preceded by an hour of visitation, with military honors conducted by Cedar Falls AMVETS Post 49.
