Josephine Megivern, 85, of Cedar Falls, died Sunday, September 26, 2004, at Sartori Memorial Hospital. She was born April 8, 1919, in Chickasaw County, daughter of Fred M. and Anna May Cagley Jordan. She married James Megivern on November 16, 1942, in Washington, D. C. He died July 9, 1987. Mrs. Megivern received both her bachelor's and master's degrees from the University of Northern Iowa, and did further graduate work at Iowa State University. She taught home economics for twenty years at UNI, retiring in 1987 as emeritus professor. She was a member of the American Home Economics Association, the Association of College Professors of Textile and Clothing, and the Costume Society and was a member and past district counselor of Phi Upsilon Omicron.
Survivors include: two sons, John (Charlene) of Sheboygan, Wisconsin, and Stephen (Kathy) of Ankeny; a daughter, Marsha Zimmerman of Cedar Falls; ten grandchildren and three stepgrandchildren. Preceded in death by: a sister, Helen Largent; two brothers, Claud and Marshall Jordan; a grandson, David Megivern; and a stepgrandson, Eric Foster.
Services: 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Patrick Catholic Church, with burial in Greenwood Cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Richardson Funeral Home, with family present 4:30 to 6:30 p.m., and with a 4 p.m. rosary and a 5 p.m. vigil service. Visitation also for an hour before services Thursday at the church.
