Box 1

  • Objectives of the Iowa State Teachers College, 1936: This box contains three slightly different versions of a report by ISTC stating its 1936 objectives.

Box 2

  • Folders 1-2: Strayer Survey, 1950
    • Folders 1-2 contain three printed copies and two manuscript copies of the Report of Survey of the Institutions of Higher Learning in the State of Iowa. Among other things, the report recommended that ISTC offer a masters program.
  • Folder 3: Visiting Legislative Committee reports, 1884-1890; 1977
    • This folder consists of reports from members of the State of Iowa legislature appointed to visit the Iowa State Normal School and UNI to ensure that the school was well managed and properly performing its functions.
  • Folder 4: State Higher Educational Institutions of Iowa, 1916
    • This folder contains the book State Higher Educational Institutions of Iowa, published in Washington D.C. by the Government Printing Service. It’s a survey of Iowa’s higher education institutions.
  • Folder 5: Capen Survey, 1939
    • Folder 5 contains two copies of a report by Samuel P. Capen that looks into possible duplication of services at Iowa’s three higher learning institutions
  • Folder 6: Capen Survey, 1926
    • This file contains copies of Samuel P. Capen’s report concerning the duplication of services at Iowa’s three higher learning institutions.

  • Folder 1: Inside Survey of ISTC, 1923.
    • This self-survey examines all aspects of ISTC’s operations.
  • Folder 2: Whipple Report, 1905
    • Contains two drafts of a 1905 report by W.P. Whipple concerning Iowa’s three higher learning institutions. It includes recommendations regarding financial issues, duplication of services, and the creation of a board of control.
  • Folder 3: Coordination of the Institutions of Higher Learning in Iowa, 1912
    • Folder 3 consists of a report about duplication of services at Iowa’s three institutions of higher learning.
  • Folder 4: Report of a Comprehensive Evaluation Visit for the Higher Learning Commission, 2010
    • This folder contains a report concerning the Higher Learning Commission’s visit to UNI in November 2010. The visit’s purpose was to evaluate the university for continued accreditation.
