Daisy Wright was a native of Chicago, Illinois. She received her teaching certificate for the state of Illinois in 1908. She later went on to receive her nursing certification in 1912 in Illinois and later from Iowa, Mississippi, and Pennsylvania. She later moved to Cedar Falls and continued to work as a nurse. She also trained Red Cross nurses in Waterloo to serve in World War II. Daisy’s son attended the Iowa State Teachers College (now the University of Northern Iowa) and studied music.
Scope and Content
This collection consists of a scrapbook spanning several lifetimes. The scrapbook was compiled by the Brown family and given to Henry and Daisy Brown on their anniversary. The primary subject is Daisy Wright, an Illinois native who later moved to Waterloo. The scrapbook contains documents such as nursing certificates from several states, grade reports from several institutions, and personal correspondence from Daisy. There are also several letters of recommendation for Daisy from various educational institutions.
There are newspaper clippings and programs relating to her son’s time at Iowa State Teacher's College (now the University of Northern Iowa), as well as Daisy’s work as a nurse. Additionally, there are many newspaper clippings of short stories and poems, as well as Christian writings. The collection is particularly strong in photographs of unidentified people dating from the 1920s to the 1940s.
