Scope and Content
The Rebecca Burkhardt Papers consist of materials gathered by Burkhardt during her career at UNI. The materials' original order and folder labeling was maintained. The collection contains items related primarily to Burkhardt's work with the Northern Iowa Symphony Orchestra (NISG), as well as a handful of outside endeavors. Included are newspaper clippings about Burkhardt and the NISG; materials from the group's 2014 Brazil tour, Burkhardt's involvement in the 2018 International Msuic Week of Sichuan Conservatory of Music; and programs from the Women Composers Concerts, dating from 1990-1993 and 2009.
Burkhardt also donated programs from assorted UNI performances. Please note that a majority of these programs are located in record series 14/09/01, boxes 27 to 31. The programs retained in this collection contain handwritten annotations related to concert recordings. Additional programs, largely from off-campus performances, are also included. Examples include Iowa All-State Orchestra, the Waterloo-Cedar Falls Symphony Orchestra, and a handful of materials related to NISO's international tours.
The collection also contains audiovisual materials, a majority of which are NISO concert recordings. Included are CDs, audio cassettes, DAT cassettes, and VHS and DVDs. Most of the individual items are labeled with the performance's date and program. Also among these materials are CDs with NISG tour photos and videos, primarily from the group's 2005 Costa Rica tour and slides from the NISO's 1997 "Halloween Hoopla" concert.
Finally, the collection includes a Costa Rica flag and a Chinese silk tapestry, which was given to the NISO by the Shanghai Opera Orchestra in 2018.
